I honestly don't think most of them are thinking that much. That is precisely what I am trying to get my "in" friends to do, THINK! They get so wrapped up in the social aspect, the gossip, who was at the meeting Sunday. They are just drones. They don't question the doctrine, when there is a new light they forget about the old new light. I don't think they have many beliefs but are great rule followers.

JWs who don't believe they have the truth. What percent?
by I quit! inevery year i think about this and i believe every year the percent goes up but it is hard to know what the number is because any doubting jw lives in fear of being found out.
they know how their lives would be permanently changed if they openly stated that they just couldn't believe it anymore.
i think there could be kingdom halls were 50% of the people attending don't believe they have the truth but think they are the only one that feels that way because every other doubter is doing the same thing they are doing.

I always pack a lunch for work, hate the idea of being out to earn money and spend money while I'm there. My kids always take lunch to school. We can usually have great meals at home like steak, potato and salad way cheaper than going out. Do love a little diner about a mile away for a weekend morning treat breakfast or the mom and pop Italian restaurant that you eat left overs for days. I agree with an above poster that the chains are kind of a rip off. We try to do cocktails at home, cheaper and less DUIs.

Jeff, another fan here, that just adores you and your posts. My husband did the rapid fade thing with me a 16 months ago, he doesn't post here but reads and always asks me to point him to your most recent. We totally understand the roller coaster of emotions you are experiencing , just when you think you have a measure of clarity and peace you run into someone from the hall or there is family drama like an illness or a funeral. Then there is a whole other set of guilt and issues when you raised kids in this mess. I keep Steve Haasan's books and CoC on my nightstand because it is an ongoing process and have come to the conclusion I may always be a little messed up. What took 40 some years to do may take a while to undo. I look at my poor elderly relatives and parents now and feel sorry for them, but we got some life left in us, so it's worth the struggle. Hang in there, we love ya. NMKA

DNCall Unmasked - Part 4 of 5
by DNCall instartfragment.
even though i didnt have the title of elder, i was still active in my work at bethel and the congregation used me as much as possible.
when the congregation recommended that i once again serve as an elder, one elder raised the objection that that barbara was a low-hour publisher.

No One to Carry On!
by AK - Jeff ini recall the 'core' families that made up our little congregation in the 60's and 70's.
i had not thought about it, but the very vast majority of those families have left zero members carrying on the 'legacy' of the 'troof'.
here is the way it breaks down - the names have been changed to protect the innocent [or guilty].. the colsons in 1970 - dad, mom and two sons.

My great grandfather became a witness, only one of his children followed, my grandfather. He had four children and only two are in the org now. Out of all their children (including me) only one remains "in". I think of so many other families and the statistics are about the same.

Unique vernacular and nomenclature of Jw's.
by AK - Jeff inboth robert lifton and steve hassan list the use of 'loaded language' as a key element of cults.
every cult has terminologies that are unique to itself, and often the intent is to polarize the membership into a black and white language style.
the cliches of cultish groups tend to stop thought, or restrict into a a single accepted viewpoint.. this is almost never recognized by the members while they are trapped inside - but is clearly evident the effects this had upon us once we exit the religion.

What a fantastic post, I just read it to my husband twice. It really made me think twice about language I still use, simple words like the "truth"and "theocratic". There is just so many all or nothing, good or evil word that still induce horrible feelings of guilt. You are so dead on about "new light" issues everyone is so brain washed they just swallow it down as a the next best thing. This is so scary when you get a chance to look at it from a different vantage point. Thanks again!

Did you Leave the Room for Birthday Parties as a kid?
by saywhat29 inin elementary school, the teachers would allow parents to bring in brownies/cake/cupcakes/ice cream to celebrate a studen'ts birthday.. and you were supposed to leave.
or tell the teacher that you would not be partaking of pagan desserts.. but.
did you actually leave?.

Yep, had to sit in the hall or in the office with the bad kids. When I grew up and had kids I picked them up and took them out to lunch, I guess my mom could have done the same but she was too busy knocking on doors. (little angry)
